Caffiene Comfort

I experimented making spiced coffee a few weeks ago and it has totally got me hooked. Needless to say, I have stopped making coffee the conventional way anymore. Although I do not crave a daily caffeine fix, this drink does give comfort during the cold rainy nights and on those breezy mornings for breakfast.

To fix myself a cuppa, I boiled 1 part milk to 1 part water on the stove and dropped in 1 small piece of cinnamon and about 2 split cardamoms to be boiled. To that I add coffee and sugar to taste. Since I used unpasteurized milk, I had to wait until the milk boils and rises before removing it.

When I visited India sometime ago, I realised that coffee and tea is taken with spices all the time but we do not practice the same here. I remember my aunt from India having her tea without her spices, she complained it had no taste..wait till she tries our famous Malaysian Teh Tarik.

Best had with buttered toasts or pancakes for breakfast. In fact I'm having one now. :p

I'm posting this as an entry for the 12th Weekend Breakfast Blogging event hosted by Trupti from The Spice Who Loved Me.

Just Heavenly Pleasures

I had been wanting to visit the newly opened Just Heavenly Pleasures in Damansara Epicure for sometime after numerous food reviews had been made about it. After weeks of procrastination, I finally brought myself and a new buddy's to drop by and found out that their launching was going on. Call that good timing. The food served was really delicious and it was a pity that we were in a hurry to leave that I totally forgot to buy back some pastries for my family members to sample. Guess I'll have to make another visit soon. Here are some shots that I've gathered.

I instantly took a liking to the floral arrangements being displayed and had to take a shot.

The ohh so scrumptious brownies

The tarts were lovely but I have seriously forgotten their individual names. A mini profiterole and... errmmmm....." Yummy sumthing tart"....

In short, if you have the sudden craving for some good desserts, hop on your car and drive to

Just Heavenly Pleasures,
Lot 1.05 & 1.06,

and get a whole lot of stuff to satisfy your cravings...

Have a nice Sunday peeps...before Monday blues come to haunt

Korean dinner : Seoul OK

Sorry for the sudden absense from the blog world, my PC has been kicking up a fuss and I finally got everything settled with it. Since I've started, I have been covering mostly home cooked dishes so I'd like to make a slight diversion from my regular style and do a dining review instead.

For fathers day, Dad decided he wanted to go for Korean BBQ and we remembered dining sometime back in this place near Jalan Sultan Ismail where the food was good so we decided to dine there again. Not knowing the exact location, we made a few wrong turns and finally reached the restaurant which is on the same building as TGIF and Ruums and opposite Wisma Genting.

It was a rather cosy restaurant and not overcrowded or anything. The only drawback was that the menu was dominated by beef and we do not consume beef so we went for BBQ chicken instead.

Not bad actually, the chicken was quite tender and nice and we got a whole array of yummy sidedishes.. I personally liked the one with pumpkin and another asparagus based one.

We also ordered the seafood and oyster omelette which I loved and was so intent in eating that I forgot to snap a pic...sorry...

The kimchi based soup served was quite nice actually and I liked it although I found the kimchi itself to be too spicy for my taste.

To end it all, a cold gingery tea was served and I actually liked it..sweet with a gingery touch. Total bill came up to about RM 120 for 4 of us. Quite affordable actually..Just that each bowl of rice was RM 5 and we hardly even ate the rice in the first place..Maybe wasnt such a good idea to take rice.

Herbed Rice

Sorry for the long absence from the blog world, I will some or rather make it up by posting more often now.

After posting a lot on Indian cooking previously, I decided to come out of the cocoon and try something rather different. The Malaysian herb rice or "nasi ulam" is something I've heard and read about but have yet to taste. This week I decided to put on a noob like face and get some Malaysian herbs from the fresh market to try some. Thank heavens the lady at the stall was nice enough to help me out in my purchases.

The assembly was easy. All that was needed is the assembly:

- Cooked rice ( depends how much you want to eat)
- Basil, Lemongrass, Galangal, Mint, Kaffir lime leaves, "Daun kesum", Coriander leaves, Fresh tumeric ( chopped finely)
- Some fried anchovies
- A dash of salt and lime juice
- Some fried grated coconut ( Roast grated coconut on slow fire in a pan until the aroma rises and it turns slightly brown)

Mix up everything and serve. I had used up the items that I had but don't be too rigid in your ingredients. You may create modifications to suit your taste and availability of ingredients, for example : you can substitute fried anchovies with dried prawns or canned tuna. My only advice is to make sure the herbs are chopped finely otherwise the leaves could be too big to chew. I served my rice with quartered full boiled eggs and a dash of cooked chilly paste or "sambal".

I did read somewhere that the same recipe could be tackled by using Western herbs such as dill, rosemary and thyme and tuna to add the body with a dash of lemon juice for taste. I have yet to try such a concoction but would perhaps experiment on it someday.

The verdict: The fried grated coconut or "kerisik" lent a great texture and aroma to the rice. The herbs gave a myriad of great tastes and the anchovies a crunch. A simple meal to make for one.Try it.
